A Category marked for Deletion will be permanently deleted from the system after 30 days. Only
the system administrator can undelete a Category. The administrator may chose to do this to any item, at which time the Owner of the item will usually be changed to administrator. An Owner choosing to delete any item by default allows this change of ownership.
Categories can be deleted by the Owner using the following method:
Deleting a Category
- From the Location front view of a Location using the Category, click on the Category Name.
- If not already selected, select the Details tab.
- If the criteria for Deleting the Location (see Criteria below) is met, the Delete link will be shown in the bottom right of the tab.
- If the criteria is NOT met (see Criteria below), hovering over the Information Icon will give a description of why.
- Click on the Delete link to delete the Category.
- You will be asked to confirm your the deletion and warned that the Owner cannot undo this action.
- After the deletion has been completed, you will be returned to the Browser at the Parent Location of the Location for which the Category was deleted
- The deleted Category or any Location which used it will no longer show in normal views, but the Category Owner will be able to see it from the User Content view until it is fully deleted or is undeleted.
Criteria
The following criteria must be met when Deleting a Category . This criteria avoids orphaning other Category Locations, maintaining the integrity of the heirarchy.
- You must be the current Owner of the Category.
- Any Location (not just the selected Location) using the Category must have no Child Locations in a state other than Deleted (No dependents).
- The Category cannot be in a Locked state.
When the Category is permanently deleted, all items relating to the Category , such as Locations or Comments and their dependent items, will also be deleted. e.g. If a a Location with no Child Location dependents uses that Category, that Location and any dependents of that Location (comments, issues etc.) will also be deleted. Any Entries for the Location will not be deleted, as Entries are not dependent on any Location, but an Entry may end up with no current Locations if the Location is the Entries only Location.
